Holiday Golf Cart Parade, Roberts Point Park, December 7

Although holiday parades seem to a casualty of American progress, our home town of Port Aransas celebrates with two unique ones every Christmas, starting with the Holiday Golf Cart Parade on December 7. It is exactly what it sounds like, a procession of golf carts decorated to bring cheer and Christmas spirit to all who view and the decorations include inflatables, ornaments, and cutouts in addition to the lights that brightly outline each cart. Santa leads the way, in his cart designed to look like his normal mode of transportation, a bright red sleigh, and at journeys end he lingers, meeting the children, posing for pics, and adding a festive cheer to the occasion.

Nautical & Nice Drive Thru Holiday Light Display, Roberts Point Park, December 7 through January 5th

Although the days stay warm and mild, the nights can be a bit chilly in this season of comfort and joy, and visitors will appreciate the warmth and comfort of their cars as they explore all that the Nautical & Nice Drive Thru Holiday Light Display has to offer. This is one of our favorite Christmas traditions, and we may even do it more than once each year, starting out the holiday season through its lighted pathways, listening to Christmas music that plays through our radios and marveling at ocean-themed cutouts, a variety of Christmas trees, and a large light show that puts us in the spirit of the holiday. And then, when Christmas has ended, we enjoy going back through the park, stopping at the Memorial Tree one last time, remembering our family and friends who aren’t with us any longer, and officially “putting the season to bed.” It is a free event, something we appreciate even more after all the strain Christmas puts on our budget and is one event that we highly recommend to our guests.

Lighted Boat Parade & Holiday Drone Show, Port Aransas Fisherman’s Wharf, December 14

This next light event covers sea and sky and gives us another opportunity to enjoy a parade. Port A’s Lighted Boat Parade & Holiday Drone Show never fails to amaze us as it gets us in the mood for the holiday. Beginning with the boat parade, local captains dress up their vessels in a vast array of shimmering lights, inflatables, and other ornaments that give the boats a beautifully festive appeal. Floating across the water, sharing joy as the Dunebillies play a wonderful selection of holiday music, this experience may feel as if it can’t get much better, but the drone show that immediately follows the parade will prove otherwise. Now it is the sky’s turn to light up and amaze, offering animated holiday displays that just 15 years ago wouldn’t be in existence. We don’t say this often but this is one area in which we are really happy for the advancements in technology!

Farley Boat Planter Decorations, Various Locations in December

Farley Boat Works has been a local business that has built some of the world’s most beautiful wood boats for over 100 years and although they may have slowed down production some, decorating their boat planters is a much beloved traditioned in our coastal town. Lighting them up, filling them with holiday plants, and even disguising them to resemble the Grinch’s sleigh in one particularly memorable case. The planters decorate our yards year-round, but at Christmas, they really shine and are worthy of a drive through the area. Try to capture as many of the creations on camera as you can, creating a photo montage that will serve as a lasting reminder of the good times you had during your white sand Christmas in Port Aransas.
